19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a final set.

He rescued 4 early chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
